WHO WE ARE

Dear English Teachers,

In anticipation of the upcoming school year, we would like to welcome you to our site.

Our one common goal is to enhance English language learning in order to improve students' achievements in English. To that end we will continue focusing on speaking skills in the English classroom at all levels. Already in preparation for the next school year, we would like to provide you with useful information and important updates.

Starting from September 1, 2019 there will be changes in the area supervision in the Central District between Sally Rosenberg, Anne Saggi and Reut Rubin Shalem . You can find our contact information and reception hours in the Inspectorate website under the Regional Inspectors.

The Ministry of Education publicizes various programs for English teaching to enhance students’ expertise in spoken and written English as well as provide innovative teaching techniques. Some of the programs in are offered through "קול קורא" and others are publicized through the English Inspectorate. Here are the available programs:

Libraries: Creating English libraries for advancing reading English in Elementary schools  (קול קורא)

Let's Talk: Adding hours to the 7th grade to promote spoken English (280 schools who have been selected  by the Head Office will continue this program).

Debate Program:  This program is for 9th grade . To be instructed by teachers who have completed specific training for debate. Addition of one hour per school. (Through the Inspectorate).

Keep Talking: Promoting Spoken English in the 10th grade. Addition of 30 effective hours per class for all levels. Schools who have not used all 30 hours can continue the program in the 11th grade up to full utilization until December 2018. Initiatives: The District has published a request for proposals for educational initiatives in English . In this framework, money will be available for purchasing educational games and for class use

This 2019-20 school year, we continue to develop professionally as in- service training courses will be held in the different pedagogical centers (פסגות) to enhance English instruction. Some of the course topics are:

1.Teaching English in the heterogeneous classroom;

2. Proficiency for English teachers;

3. Integrating technology in the English classroom as a tool to inspire students' learning;

4.Refresher courses for teaching literature;

5. Promoting speaking skills in the English classroom;

6. Revisiting the English Curriculum.

Like in previous years, in the 2019-20 school year professional learning communities (PLCs) for English teachers will take place in the district. Participants in these communities that will be led by a facilitator, are expected to take an active role in a shared learning community that will consist of 15-20 participants. They will also include peer observations, discussions on classroom management, reflection and analysis of case studies.

For further details, get in touch with the Pisga in your area.

We take this opportunity to welcome the new English teachers who joined our district. We are confident that you will contribute to advancing English education.

We look forward to working with all of you in providing guidance and mentoring to the English teachers throughout the district, enhancing the English learning experience and knowledge and bringing the students’ achievements to new heights.
